Hey Dawg,

I've been looking back at some of my posts, and feel like I do owe you and the rest of the SEC fans an apology. I have been tougher on you guys than others. I guess it's because we Tiger fans don't get good teams very often, and I'm sure the BCS snub last year help fuel that fire. Guess I got carried away here a little...maybe a lot.
I will limit my posts to predictions, and less comentary and bashing in the future. We can always agree to disagree, and that's OK.

Saturday is nearly upon us, which means another great weekend of college football.

Let the fun begin!!!!!

Dear "Herby"

I know you love to make predictions on more notable footballs teams, but I would like to know your thoughts on a particular game coming up this Saturday.  It's the "Battle of the Bayou" featuring the University of Louisiana at Monroe Warhawks vs. the University of Louisiana at Lafayette RAGIN CAJUNS.  Obviously, I'm rooting for my Alma Mater.  I've been practicing by wearing UL-Lafayette shirts to class sometimes just to get a response.  I'm pretty sure I am the most hated person on this campus.

Frankly, I'm looking forward to the tailgating more than the football game.  We may not be able to win many games (except in hockey of course ), but we sure do know how to out party the opposing school.

So anyway, any predictions on this Saturday's game?  ULL may have a 1-3 record, but they have played some really tough teams so far and given them a run for their money.  It certainly will be an exciting game.

Signed,

Devoted Ragin Cajuns Fan

Ragin Cajuns 21 Warhawks 20...Warhawks miss the 2 point conversion for the win. Ragin Cajuns tear down the goal posts, and take the party to the streets.

Mizzou didn't get a BCS snub last year - They just plain "got the shaft". Such is life in College Football when the National Championship is more determined by local tourism departments than merits on the football field. Unfortunately, somebody else will be victimized again this year, and every year, until the "powers that be" wakes up and realizes the need for a legitimate playoff system like divisions 1-AA, II, and III.

Speaking only for myself, no apology necessary, Herb.  We are all passionate about our respective teams, and that is as it should be.

But I will disagree with your Alabama v. Kentucky prediction .... I feel that the game will be much closer than than. After the big win in Athens last weekend, this is the perfect 'trap game' for Kentucky, and those Wildcats smell blood. Alabama is primed for a letdown, and the outcome this week will give us some insight on whether Saban can keep the troops hungry. But Kentucky won't give up without a fight. They have an excellent defense, but not sure they will be effective in moving the ball against our 'D'.

Alabama 20, Kentucky 10 ... Kentucky covers the spread (16 1/2).

And let me say one more thing about Alabama ... we lack depth. It was very evident in the Tulane game. When our best horse (Andre Smith) is not in the lineup, we sorely miss him. We are also very thin on defense. We are only a couple of injuries away from a mediocre season. The consensus locally was that the Tide would come away with 8 victories this year and that 2009 would be the turnaround year. Of course a lot of people are gulping the Kool-Aid instead of sipping it, but I would still expect a couple of losses along the way. We are still a VERY young team.

But winning sure is a lot more fun than losing, ain't it?

- Bama

p.s. - Thought you might like this photo I took at The Shoals Golf Club (Muscle Shoals, Alabama) right before a wedding I shot there in July.

Herby - I agree with Bama...no apology necessary!  I can take as good as I give!!!
Great picture Bama!  It might interest The Herb that The Shoals AND Hampton Cove(Robert Trent Jones Courses) are just a short drive from Trinity, AL where the Queen will be performing in May of next year.  Also, Grand National, another Jones course, is a short drive from Phenix City, where the Queen is tentatively scheduled to perform the day before the Trinity show.

Hmmmmm....Golf near Trinity and Phenix City on courses as beautiful as those. Sounds like a road trip for the Herb. I'm in.

Let's see--the Tigers have two players in the run for the Heisman--Chase Daniels and Maclin-can any other team say that this year??????

I don't brag because every time I do something bad happens just look at Herb & my Cardinals-they are in the cellar!

I really believe in the Tigers this year. Let's hope that the defense can prove themself in Lincoln on Saturday. I will be there for the first time and I can only hope that the Tigers will bring home a victory for the first time from there since 1978. THE CHASE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!! GO TIGERS!!!

By the way, the QUEEN doesn't know a football from a baseball from a basketball. I am not being mean--ask her which sport has a holding call?

Dear Herby,

I just returned from the historic event where the ULL Ragin Cajuns defeated the ULM Warhawks 44-35!

School records were broken today as the star player #32 (great number by the way) Tyrell Fenroy had 297 yards in rushing which gave the offense a total of 728 yards tonight.

I screamed my lungs out and have bruises on my hands from clapping and high fiving all the Cajun fans.  All in all, it was awesome.

Thanks for the prediction!

Well, I have got a few of them right so far today.

The Ragin Cajuns, THE Ohio St., Vandy, Florida, USC, Mizzou (so far) Oklahoma, West Virginia, heck I've gotten all of them right so far. Some of them were real close to the final score also.
Picked OSU over Wisconsin 21-18...final score 20-17
Picked Vandy over Auburn 14-10...final score 14-13

Back to the game..

Courtney, congrats on the big win by the Ragin' Cajuns! Very impressive numbers by Mr. Fenroy along with the gargantuan 728 yards total offense for ULL. I don't care who you are ... that's some kinda production!

As I predicted a few days ago, my beloved Crimson Tide did indeed suffer from a letdown today against the Wildcats of Kentucky. As I told my Miss Nancy, Alabama did not beat Kentucky today ... Kentucky beat Kentucky today. Aside from the fact that Bama played uninspired football today (Glen Coffee and his 218 yards rushing being the only exception), Kentucky shot themselves in the foot with drops, fumbles, and penalties. At this stage, I can see Alabama being ranked no higher than #5. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, and LSU are clearly better teams at this point in the season. For Alabama, it only gets tougher from here on out. Thankfully, we have a week off to get well before we lower our shoulders and drive into the meat of the schedule now, and we will be most fortunate to end this season at 10-2 or, more realistically, 9-3.

Another glass of kool-aid, please!  :-)

Although I was not privvy to Nick Saban's post-game presser today, I was fortunate enough to have attended one presser in front of Mr. Saban's podium with a much prettier 'coach' ... and I think you will agree.  :-) Needless to say, this bride is one of Bama's biggest fans!

I'm disgusted...plain & simple!  If I were to hire a subordinate that performed the way our Off. Coordinator has, there is no doubt that MY job would be in jeopardy!

Almost forgot... congratulations Herby on your picks this week!  Let there be no doubt that you are THE MAN!!!

Got home from Walhalla last night and the last game on the tube was the Mizzou - Nebraska game. To be perfectly honest, I NEVER cared for Tom Osborne and the way he played "neighborhood bully" for all those years (with the exception of OU) in the old Big 8. Seems like it's now "payback" time for ol' Tom's past "transgressions". Kansas has hung 70 on 'em recently, and Mizzou put up 52 in their "house". Like the old Willie Nelson song says, "A Little Old Fashioned Karma Comin' Down". My big ol' silly Ragin' grin from Walhalla got even BIGGER when I saw the thorough butt-kickin' the Huskers were takin'. Sorry to any Nebraska fans out there.
