CARAMEL DUMPLINGS

Heat oven to 400F

Prepare in a Cast Iron Skillet that you can transfer to the oven for baking. 

Part 1 – Caramel Mixture

You will need:

White Granulated Sugar (3 cups total)

2 ½ c. Boiling Water

1 T. butter

1 T. vanilla

 
In a Skillet -  

Pour 2 cups of the White Granulated Sugar – cook on medium heat till sugar is melted

Continuous Stirring - Once all the sugar is melted – 

Carefully pour in 2 ½ c. Boiling Water

Keep Stirring then add 1 c. of White Granulated Sugar, 1 T. Butter, 1 T. Vanilla

Bring to a boil – then let simmer while you make the dumplings. 


Part 2 - Dumplings

You will need:

½ c White Granulated Sugar

Pinch of Salt

1 T. Baking Powder

½ c. Milk 

1 c. or more of Flour – Add flour a little at a time till it forms a stiff dough

Mix all ingredients together to make a stiff dough


Part 3 – 

Remove the skillet from heat. 

Drop the dough by heaping tablespoons into the caramel mixture in the skillet. 

Put the skillet of caramel dumplings in the oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the dumplings are lightly browned.  


This is my favorite dessert.  This year, my mother made them with gluten free flour, so they can also be gluten free, and so delicious.  Enjoy!!
